The All Progressives Congress Presidential Support Committee has suspended its National Coordinator, Senator Godswill Akpabio a former PDP politician who decamped from the party on August 8, 2018.
Senator Akpabio, a former two-term governor of Akwa Ibom state is the current Minister of Niger-Delta. He was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari to the role in July 2019.
Akpabio was suspended by the committee which is the parent body of President Muhammadu Buhari support group over what it describes as poor leadership. The committee was constituted with the objective to drum up support for President Buhari’s re-election bid in 2019.
While addressing journalists after a meeting of the group’s National Executive Committee in Abuja on Saturday, spokesperson Kailani Muhamad said the group decided to suspend Senator Akpabio because he abandoned the organisation after his ministerial appointment.
