We did not endorse Tinubu for President in 2023 – Afenifere

Prominent South-west socio-political group, Afenifere, has denied claims that it has endorsed the candidacy of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to contest for the post of Nigeria’s President in the 2023 Elections.

The rebuttal by the group comes only a day after Prince Dayo Adeyeye, leader of South West Agenda, claimed that it has secured the support of Afenifere after a visit to former leader of the group, Pa Reuben Fasoranti on Tuesday in Akure, Ondo State.

But in a statement by its Director of Communications, Mr. Sola Lawal on Wednesday, Afenifere denied endorsing any candidate, noting that the stance of Pa Fasoranti is personal and does not in any way represent the position of the group.

Lawal, who described the visit of Adeyeye as insensitive and disrespectful, said that the group is still grieving over the loss of its Publicity Secretary, Yinka Odumakin.

He said that all engagements of Afenifere had been suspended in honour of the deceased who is still lying cold and lonely in the morgue. He noted that Adeyeye’s visit to Afenifere during a time of a huge loss and great mourning is disrespectful and insensitive.

He further noted that as the substantive leader of the group, Chief Ayo Adebanjo is in the best position to speak for Afenifere and not Pa Fasoranti who had since handed over the reign of leadership of the group.
